A Progressive Story for Every Generation!
Let me share a story that struck a deep chord with me – one that beautifully reflects how patience, integrity, and resilience quietly shape true prosperity
The Story for Every Generation begins here…
It’s about a poor farmer who, in search of a better future, planted something no one in his neighborhood had ever tried before — a Chinese bamboo sapling. His intention was simple but powerful: to rise above the constant uncertainties of farming, climate, and economy, and take a leap of faith into something that might change his life.
At the same time, his neighbor planted a mango seed. Both began watering their plants daily with equal dedication.
Very soon, the mango seed began to sprout. Within weeks, it was a thriving little plant. But the bamboo… nothing. No sign of growth. Days turned into months, and months into years. The mango plant has grown a stronger tree now, while the bamboo plant still looked like sapling, and only the shoot was visible over the ground. Only hope of the poor farmer was that the plant still looked green and that kept his intention alive.
He continued nurturing it—watering, adding manure, shielding it from harm. The world around him mocked his persistence. They told him to stop wasting time. To move on. To do what everyone else was doing. But something within him—his intuition, his belief—told him to stay the course.
And then a Miracle happened
In the sixth year, the bamboo suddenly shot up—eighty feet tall within just a few months. It didn’t just grow. It soared.
What had been happening all these years? Was the bamboo asleep?
Not at all. Beneath the surface, where no eye could see, it was growing its roots—strong, deep, far-reaching. Those years of invisible growth were not wasted. They were vital. Because only when the foundation was strong enough could the bamboo rise with such speed and strength.
This story isn’t just about a tree.
It’s about life. It’s about us. It’s about building one’s prosperity
Too often, in our desire to succeed quickly, we forget the value of building roots—within ourselves, within our brands, within our purpose. I’m not saying we all have to wait for six years like the bamboo farmer. But one should give enough time & efforts for the vision to come alive and see the light of the day.
One such source of prosperity is you. Yourself
How much time have you spent in building your core—your thoughts, your skills, your identity? The more aligned you are with your vision, and the more integrity you bring to the journey, the stronger your roots become. And those roots will support unimaginable growth when the time is right.
As someone who’s spent decades in the world of advertising and brand building, I’ve seen this truth unfold over and over again. This is how really the process of brand building works. You always are a brand-in-making. A lot of effort goes behind making of a brand. Your conviction towards yourself and your devotion towards your subject, (may be a product or service) will always define the pathway of your growth as a human being and a revenue generator.
And whether you belong to Gen X, Y, Z—or the digital-first Gen Alpha—the fundamentals haven’t changed. Building roots is never out of fashion. You can add all the accelerators you want, but if the roots are weak, the growth won’t last.
So, friends, like the bamboo tree, give enough time to strengthen your roots in whichever field you are or whatever type of person you want to become or whatever venture/brand you want to build. These roots with strengthen your association with the true nature of your purpose in life. No matter what course of uncertainty may arise on the journey of building you or your brand, you will always have the sense of walking the right path. In today’s time, when everything is at fast pace, unusually more convenient, let’s keep alive these age-old basics of progress in this new age of progressive world
